Merion Station Gardens

Merion Station, PA · Medium Yard

Design $1,200–$1,800 · Installation $7,500–$27,500

Flagstone path to the stone porch through blue asters, magnolia, and goldenrod

The property

This Merion Station home on a corner is framed with deep native-plant based, borders highlighting the front walk, porch, bluestone path and lawn, giving the stone house a garden setting that changes with every season.

Design goals

  • Give the front of the house a welcoming, layered garden
  • Connect the porch, walk, and lawn with continuous planting
  • Plant natives that carry the gardens through every season

Challenges

A large spruce and mature trees shade parts of the property, so planting had to suit both sunny and shaded beds.

Plant strategy

Asters, goldenrod, black-eyed Susans, amsonia, and allium layered with hydrangeas and magnolias for bloom from spring into fall.

Installation

Beds were shaped and prepared around existing trees, then planted in layers from shrubs to groundcovers.

The finished landscape

A house surrounded by gardens that feel full, natural, and cared for in every season.

Investment

Ideal for refreshing existing plantings, or adding new beds to the landscape.
