Sabine Avenue Border
Wynnewood, PA · Large Landscape
Design $1,800–$2,800 · Installation $10,000–$45,000

The property
This Sabine Avenue residence was reimagined with a layered landscape framing the front of the home. An overgrown hedge was replaced with evergreen trees and shrubs, native grasses, and flowering perennials — a dynamic landscape that provides beauty in all seasons.

Design goals
- Remove an overgrown hedge that hid the architecture
- Build a layered front border with real depth
- Keep the front of the house interesting through winter
Challenges
Decades of hedge growth had left compacted soil and a flat, one-dimensional frontage with nothing to look at after September.
Plant strategy
Evergreen trees and shrubs for structure, switchgrass and other native grasses for autumn and winter presence, oakleaf hydrangea and flowering perennials for bloom and fall color.
Installation
Hedge removal and full bed reconstruction, then planting in layers from canopy down to the ground plane.
The finished landscape
A front landscape that changes month to month and looks composed in every one of them.
